Reflection on Melodrama Performance 2

Titanic

This is me posing in my character. My character is Jack he is the hero from Titanic, he is the person who discovers that captain left and Jack (me) is going to try and save everyone from dying.

This is Jack and Rose (Me and Tereza), we are lovers in the play, we have a bit of a fight towards the end - but that is only because we care about each other. This pose is taken from the scene where Jack is saying goodbye/ when he is drowning.

This is a group photo before we performed, I remember we were so anxious. Starting from left is Abdullah: he was the captain's helper/slave ( the henchman), then there is Ahmed: he was the captain ( the villain), then there is me: I'm Jack (the hero, and finally there is Tereza who is Rose (the damsel in distress)

This is a scene in the play when I'm thinking of what to do to save the people in the ship from dying.

This is another scene in the play where I was arguing with the man (Abdullah) blocking the third class people from going on the lifeboat, straight after that I had a fight with him and pushed him into the ocean.

This is the beginning part when I'm listening to the captain (Ahmed) and the henchman (Abdullah) talking about the boat and the captain leaving.

This is the final group photo that we took after we finished out performance, as you can see we are much more relaxed and happy. As well I put on a different shirt and had a mustache drawn on me with crayons.

This was just a selfie that Tereza and I took after out performance, I don't even know what kind of face I was supposed to make ( messed up)

Reflection

I really enjoyed this topic and especially doing this play, I personally think it went better than last melodramatic play we did because we got to use our imagination and creativity a lot. I personally loved the proms we had and I adored my mustache, I didn't want to take it off although it was very itchy. I think my class mates enjoyed watching our performance because I could hear them laughing and I received a lot of compliments when we finished. However it was quite challenging for me because since I was Jack and I was a male character, I couldn't have a high pitched voice or sound like a girl, so I had to put and manly voice, which was hard to keep it throughout the whole play and not laugh, but I managed to do it. It was also hard to not laugh when I had my little argument with Tereza about Jack going with Rose in the lifeboat even if there was no more space, it was really fun because I couldn't take her seriously but I didn't laugh, as well that was my favorite part. Also we received a lot of compliments when we went at the back of the stage and had a conversation but using different kinds of voices (tones) which was really fun to do and the people watching it enjoyed it. Unfortunately we messed up a part which, we did get right in rehearsals but didn't get right when on stage, and this scene was when we had to fall all together because the ship hit the ice berg.  We had sounds/effects to go with that scene but Abdullah forgot to play them on time, so we just stood there for some time while he remembered and pressed them, But other than that I loved acting this play because I got to be very loud (which I am) and got to exaggerate and look silly.

Reflection on the Melodrama Performance

Reflection

I think that my group did really well, we enjoyed ourselves and had lots of fun rehearsing, creating the script and especially performing it. Reflecting back to the performance I think that I did good job because I had a loud voice, so my classmates could understand what I was saying. As well I tried to use different tones of voice, so sometimes I went really loud and sometimes I sounded like I was going to cry (example; when Sultan told me that Sailor Jack was dead)etc. Next time I could improve and try to exaggerate my actions more, so when Sailor Jack walked in, I could've maybe stood up or acted like I was going to faint; something like that, just so it was a little bit more interesting. Also, at the end, I was actually supposed to step on Sultan, and smirk at him, but I forgot. So next time I should try and rehearse more, so I won't forget any scenes/ actions that I will have to do. I must admit, that during the planning and rehearsing time, I sometimes get carried away, and start acting a bit silly and crazy, so in the future I will try really hard to focus and not get carried away.

My group was made up of six people: Ahmed, Abdullah, Tereza, Sultan, Rowan and I. Sultan was Sir Jasper (the villain), Ahmed was the father of Rosebud, Abdullah was Sailor Jack (the hero), Tereza was the sidekick or Sir Jasper (also known as the henchman), Rowan was the mother of Rosebud and I was Rosebud (the damsel in distress). Our story was set in a house; the house where Rosebud and her parents lived. So while they were having dinner, Sidekick walks in and introduces Sir Jasper, and as it shows in the video, Sir Jasper and Sidekick capture Rowan (mother) and Ahmed ( father) . Then Sir Jasper threatened to throw Rosebud's parents out into the cold. Unless Rosebud married Sir Jasper, but she denies the proposal and says that she will marry Sailor Jack. Sir Jasper then lies to Rosebud tellinng her that Sailor Jack is dead and gone, but as soon as he says that Sailor Jack (Abdullah) walks in and fights with Sir Jasper; kills him and Rosebud and Sailor Jack lived happily ever after.

I really enjoyed and had a lot of fun, in writing the script as well as performing/ rehearsing it and I can't wait to start the Titanic melodrama play.
