Week 4 - Photography

Task - Using Photographic techniques and effects to create scary images

This week we used iPads to  take portrait pictures as well as full body pictures, I worked with Tereza and we actually managed to take really good pictures even though we started off really badly. To take scary and mysterious pictures Tereza and I used the flashlight on her phone to play around with the light Also we used pieces of fabric to create a more haunted effect and we took a range of pictures (side pictures, front pictures and back pictures). Then we discovered that if you went onto photo-booth there was this effect called X-ray which created the most scariest and creepiest portrait pictures. In addition to that we took all the pictures in the dark to give a gloomy effect in the background. We positioned the flashlight under my chin, under my toes, next to my face etc. and I must admit that I had a lot of fun and enjoyed myself a lot throughout this week.

Here are examples of the images Tereza and I took:

We actually took more pictures and we did send them to ourselves but they didn't show up in our email and I only noticed it the next day which meant that I couldn't go find them because the iPad that we were using didn't have a number. But I am still searching for them and I even went to the ICT guys and asked if they could find it and they said that they will be searching for them (work in progress) so as soon as I find them, I will post them on the blog. These images will not necessarily be part of the Phantasmagoria  Show but I will use them as inspiration to take the pictures that we need. For example I could use the black and white filter to add a more gloomy effect to the picture with the eyes that we took last lesson (there is a part in the story where the girl sees eyes in a mirror. All of these images relate to my story because most of them are portrait and in my story there are a lot moments where we see the girl a lot so portrait pictures are perfect. Also there is a scene where the girl has a flashback and we could use the X-ray effect which would look really cool as a flashback, because flashbacks are usually very bright. I can't wait for the next lessons when we will be learning how to take moving images and edit/Photoshop existing pictures that we already took without any filters .
